Structural restoration intervention in Reno Centese, province of Ferrara

Architettura Strutturale has carried out a structural restoration intervention for the Church of Sant’Anna in Reno Centese in the province of Ferrara.

The church of Sant’Anna, located in the center of Reno Centese, is part of a complex that also includes the rectory, annexed to it, and the bell tower.

The church constitutes a minor architecture and consists of a longitudinal layout that develops through: central nave, two aisles on each side, internal semicircular apse with basin and canopy, transept and a side chapel with a domed cruise.

The main facade of sober neoclassical taste has a layout consisting of two registers framed by pilasters and surmounted by a simple tympanum.

From the subdivision of the internal division into five naves can be identified: the central part, surrounded by pilasters, corresponds to the central nave and the wings, which identify the side aisles, are connected to the latter with masonry volutes.

Following the seismic events of May 2012, the church of S. Anna was damaged, showing a serious crack pattern in the internal parts and on the external elevations.

In particular, the following damages and mechanisms generated are identified (Guidelines for the assessment and reduction of the seismic risk of cultural heritage):

The Civil Protection, following the first inspections carried out immediately after the earthquake, arranged for the execution of pipe shoring and joints on the three most damaged arches: the arch of the presbytery, the entrance arch to the votive chapel and an arch of the aisle.

Having identified the weak points and possible kinematics, analyzing the crack pattern that has manifested itself on the church structures, the planned interventions that aim to compensate for the effect of degradation and damage caused by the earthquake of May 2012 are the following:
